Grace  Wellik

Meanjin Brisbane based composer from Aotearoa New zealand

Grace Wellik is a Meanjin/Brisbane-based composer known for her “present-day Aotearoa voice, rich with hopefulness and connection” (Auckland Philharmonia, 2025). Recent works have been performed and/or commissioned by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia, Trio Immersio, Commonwealth Resounds, Nexus New Music, and Trio Chroma, with latest premieres occurring in Vienna, Glasgow, Queensland, Christchurch, and Auckland. Currently a 2026-27 Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Cybec 21st Century Australian Composer, Wellik was the 2025 Auckland Philharmonia Young Composer in Residence, 2024 Auckland Youth Choir Young Composer in Residence, and 2023-24 New Zealand Choral Federation Young Conductor. 2024 also saw Wellik nominated as a finalist in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Todd Young Composer Awards. Impressively diverse, Wellik’s vocal performances have been awarded multiple University of Auckland Blues Awards, the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod's Choir of the World, and the European Choir Games Grand Prix of Nations “Folklore” category.
