Composition Lessons
I offer one-on-one lessons for students of all ages and experience levels, both online or from my home studio in Brisbane. Lessons take the form of working through the process of composing a new piece or multiple new pieces at a time. Each week we will see where you are at and develop your score together, learning how to utilise compositional skills and techniques to create the best piece possible. Our work may take the form of one or multiple of the following areas:
Composing
You will start from a blank page, creating a new piece of music from scratch.
Orchestration
Starting from a piano reduction or sketches, you will turn your ideas into a full-scale orchestral work.
Portfolio preparation
Ensure you’re putting your best foot forward for university, festival, grant, and residency applications by showcasing the best of your work.
Arranging
You will take an already existing work and re-write it for different instruments.
Engraving
You will learn how to utilise music software to make your scores and parts meet professional standards and look beautiful, ready to be given to any professional musician or organisation for performance.
Application Writing
You will learn how to tailor your applications for festivals, grants, and residencies to give you the best possible change of a successful application.
If you don’t require regular lessons, but would like guidance for a specific project or application, I offer one-off online lessons or email feedback. These are most helpful in the late stages of composing, or at the end of writing an application as I can give you the most feedback. Enquire via the button above for more information.
