Wellik is an experienced artistic planner and ensemble director, having been a 2023-24 New Zealand Choral Federation Young Conductor, and currently holding the position of Artistic Coordinator with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra. A champion of new music, she advocates for the programming of works by living and local composers with a focus on programming new works for repeat performances, as well as commissioning new works with equitable funding opportunities. Wellik believes that classical music should be accessible to audiences from all backgrounds and is a keen endorser of community engagement programs and integrative classical music education in schools. During her time as the Auckland Philharmonia Young Composer-in-Residence, Wellik engaged with over 1000 students through writing for a concert that introduced high school students to the orchestra. Wellik holds a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland, during which she was awarded the Alan Robertson Memorial Scholarship (2024 and 2025) and the Cantorum Chamber Choir Choral Commission Award (2023). 

Wellik composes in a voice that is present and magical, often citing nature, poetry, and visual art as inspiration for her work. Stripping back the weight of modern life, her music reminds us that at the core of humanity is the connections we have with others. This bleeds into her creative process, which engages directly with performers to create music that serves the composer, the performers, and the audience. Having been described as developing “a grand, unified theory of music with humanity at its core” by Richard Betts (The Listener, 2025), this people-first approach to composing allows for stronger, personal writing and performances which place collaboration between artists above all else.
